Obituary for Dorease Gooding
Dorease D. Gooding was born February 9, 1919 to the late Richard Gooding and Frances Moffett-Gooding in Hawthorne, Florida. She was converted at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health diminished.
Dorease Gooding was the youngest of seven children. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lilia Jones, Dan Gooding, Queen Brown, James Gooding, Richard Gooding, Jr., and Minnie McClain. She also proceeded in death by one daughter, Billie Marie Williams.
A tireless and dedicated worker, she was a member of the LaBelle Club, Eastern Star, Hawthorne Homecoming Committee, Band Booster Club, and assisted with Girl Scouts. She retired from Veteran Administration Hospital with many years serving as a supervisor. She accepted Christ at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Hawthorne, FL. and served as an Usher for many years. In her passion for ushering, her request was to be buried in an Usher Board Uniform.
Dorease “Nanny” was loved by all and did not meet any strangers. She enjoyed Baking, caring for our flowers and taking care of others. Her favorite thing was to have family gatherings. Her presence will never be fulfilled and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
She lives to cherish precious memories; Sons; Melvin “Tim” Johnson of Gainesville, FL, and Charles ‘Harry” (Brenda) Baker of Thomasville, GA, Daughters; Rubbin Joyce Johnson of Hawthorne, FL, Yama Gooding of Tampa, FL, Son-In-Law; Franklin Williams of Gainesville, FL; 12 Grand Children, 20 Great Grandchildren, 10 Great, Great Grandchildren and a host of Loving Nieces, Nephews, Family and Friends. Also sharing in her love were her adopted children; Sha`Tina Scott and Elaine Williams.
