Today, we pause to celebrate the life and legacy of Aaron Wilson Jr., known as the gentle giant "Big Ace" to some and "Jr" to others. He was born at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville Florida on Thursday, December 16, 1971 as the third of four children to Aaron Wilson Sr. and the late Pauline (Polly) Simmons Wilson.
He matriculated through Alachua County Public Schools and graduated from Buchholz High School in the class of 1989. Jr attended, Santa Fe Community College, Gainesville FL and Lake Sumpter Community College, Leesburg FL. After school, he worked at Burger King as a Crew member and Eckerd Youth Challenge Juvenile Justice Program as a Counselor.
Jr. grew up in a loving home and learned of Christ at an early age from his mother. He was a member of Jerusalem Church of God by Faith and Hawthorne Church of God by faith under the pastorate of the late Elder N. R. Burney & the late Elder Mark C. Welch.
In 2003, he married his best friend Marlissa Baskin.
Jr. was a fun, loving guy and a major fan of his hometown college team, the Florida Gators. He bled orange and blue. He also enjoyed hanging out with family, friends, problem solving, cooking and watching football/basketball. Jr was very devoted to his family. We knew that we could call and talk to him about any and everything. He was the meaning of a true supporter.
Aaron's final Facebook posting: May 6, 2023
"Good morning, sitting here thinking, how do you question GOD when you have firsthand knowledge of what GOD can and will do. I'm sorry, GOD. Nothing anyone can tell me will change my mind. So, if you are going to try to convince me otherwise don't waste that valuable oxygen you need when you have to ask GOD for HIS mercy and grace. Be blessed and speak to GOD as much as you possibly can." "Love is Love" C. Wake Sr.
He was preceded in death by his doting mother: Pauline (Polly) Simmons Wilson, grandparents: Andy Simmons, Shellie Simmons and Eddie Wilson Sr, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
After 51 years of love and laughter, Aaron Wilson Jr "Big Ace/Jr" took God's hand and entered eternal reward on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at UF Health Shands of Gainesville. Jr. let us know, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8), he took his wings.
We know that the hearts of those who knew and loved Jr, were not ready, joy and comfort will be embraced in every recollection of our beloved "Jr".
