Obituary for Alfreda McAllister Cowan
Alfreda McAllister Cowan was born on June 3, 1953, in Brooker, Florida to the
late Beulah Cooper McAllister and Nathaniel E. McAllister, Sr. She was
preceded in death by her older brother, Nathaniel E. McAllister, Jr., older sister,
Allie McAllister Williams, younger brother Winfred McAllister, and half-brother,
Travis Mulberry.
Alfreda grew up in Brooker, Florida. She was a member of Greater Bell United
Methodist Church until she moved to Washington, D.C. Alfreda attended A.L.
Mebane High School and Gainesville High School. After graduating from High
School, she attended Santa Fe Community College. Following that, she
secured a job with the FBI and moved to Washington, D.C. She was employed
with the FBI until she retired in 2015. Alfreda met the love of her life, Alfred
Cowan, whom she married in 1999. After retirement, she and Alfred decided
that they wanted to leave the North and head South to enjoy the warm
weather. They selected Palm Coast as their destination and built a home
there in 2021.
Alfreda will be remembered for her outgoing personality and her love of life.
She loved travel, shopping, and home décor. Over the years, she organized
numerous travel adventures for her friends and family. Her enthusiasm for life
will truly be missed.
She leaves to cherish loving memories: Her devoted husband, Alfred Cowan;
Stepson, Anthony Cowan (Traci); Stepdaughter, Nichole Cowan; numerous
grandchildren; Sister in-law, Glade McAllister of Gainesville, Florida; Brother
in-law, James Williams, Gulf Port, Mississippi; one Aunt, Willeen Griffin,
Starke, Florida; nieces and nephews: Stevondia McAllister, Savannah, GA;
Winfred “BJ” McAllister, Brooker, FL; Cordell Cray, Starke, FL; Dianne C.
McAllister, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Floyd McAllister; David McAllister (Patricia);
Debra McAllister; Carol McAllister Enoch (Yance); Wanda McAllister Jones
(Gregory, Sr.) all of Gainesville, FL; Christopher Williams and Michael Williams
of Gulfport, MS; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
