Obituary for Althea Johnson
Althea Johnson was born August 12, 1943, in Alachua, Florida to the late Mr. James Thomas Sr. and Mrs. Mae Catherine Thomas.
Althea graduated from A.L. Mebane High School (Class of 1961). She attended Santa Fe Community College, Gainesville, Florida graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Her nursing career began at Shands Teaching Hospital where she worked for eight years. She then transitioned to the Lake Butler Reception Medical Center until she retired.
She was converted at an early age and joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Alachua, Florida. Later she joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, LaCrosse, Florida where she served with her husband faithfully in the choir. She also served as a stewardess, and secretary of finances.
Althea departed this life on Friday, May 27, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. James Thomas Sr and Mrs. Mae Catherine Thomas.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her heartwarming memories: Her loving husband, Roosevelt Johnson Sr of Lacrosse, Florida, daughter Sharon Batie (Billie) of Micanopy, Florida, sons: Roosevelt Johnson Jr. (Melissa) of Baltimore, Maryland, Michael Angelo Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida – a special daughter Sharon E. Johnson of Kingsley, Georgia; grandchildren: Brandy B. Garner, Deja I. Johnson, Marcus N. Johnson, Alivia B. Chambers, Alexia A. Archbold, Isaiah M. Johnson; great grandchildren: Tyson C. Garner, Kingston J.C. White, Noel S. Williams, Anohana D. Morrison, Ayanna Archbold; siblings: Virginia Bullard of Gainesville, Florida and James Thomas Jr (Aggie) of Gainesville, Florida; sisters-in-law: Janet Kinsey (Jimmie) of Lacrosse, Florida Janice Johnson of Lawtey, Florida, Shirley Wright (Lester)of Ocala, Florida, La Barbara Nattiel Kirk of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers-in-law Sylvester Johnson (Joyce)of High Springs, Florida and Leo Johnson of Lacrosse, Florida; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
