Obituary for Calvin C. McCone, Sr.
Calvin C. McCone, Sr., died peacefully after a brief illness at Promises Hospital in The Villages, FL on October 28, 2014. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his children, Susan (McCone) Dixon and her husband Joe, Calvin C. McCone, Jr. and his wife Marcie of Taunton, and Linda McCone of Dunnellon, FL. He also leaves his sister Jettie (McCone) Henderson and her husband Carnell Henderson of Hawthorne, FL, Margery (McCone)Dixon and Carolyn McCone of Taunton and Henry McCone, Sr., of Taunton. He is preceded in death by his brothers Andrew L. McCone, Logan R. McCone, Lonnie P. McCone of Taunton and Alethia (McCone) Brown of Hawthorne, FL. Calvin was born on March 16, 1926 in Gordon Chapel in Hawthorne, FL to Andrew D. and Susie (Simpkins) McCone. In 1951 he followed his eldest brother Andrew to Taunton and was soon joined by his wife Allie and two young daughters, Susan and Linda. Son Calvin was born in Taunton. Mr. McCone worked as a bricklayer and was a member of the bricklayer union for more than 50 years. He also worked at the Raynham Dog Track for 22 years. He spent 13 of his retirement years driving an ice cream truck; a great joy to him. Calvin was a humble, loving and caring man, who was passionate about his family. His life revolved around them, and he was an important presence in their lives. After he and Allie raised their own children, they lovingly raised siblings Darlene Houston of Stratford, CT., Donna Horne of Taunton, and Gregory and Robert Houston of Taunton. He loved to laugh, and enjoyed sports and fishing. He was an active and dedicated member of the Baptist Church of all Nations along with his late wife. He was recently honored there as Deacon Emeritus. He will be greatly missed by his eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves fond memories with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Baptist Church of all Nations, Taunton on Friday Nov.7, 2014 at 11AM. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, (Route 138 South) Taunton. Interment Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship at the PACC 176 School Street, Taunton following the interment service.
