Obituary for Deacon Alphonso Leroy Walker

On Monday, June 24, 2024, at 4:49 in the afternoon, Deacon Alphonso Leroy Walker peacefully accepted

the final call of God. Deacon Walker was born on May 5, 1954, to the late Otis Cleveland Walker, Sr. and the late Ruth L.

Walker in Johnson Crossroads, FL during the midwifery movement with midwife. Mattie Ray. Al was the

fifth of eleven children born to this union. Deacon Walker began his education at Oak Grove Elementary School and completed high school in 1974 at Interlachen High School where was a member of the Varsity 4 Club. He accepted Christ at an early age

under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Strickland. Later under the leadership of Dr. Clarence Woods of

Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church, Deacon Walker served actively in the Deacon Ministry and the

Male Chorus until his health began to fail. His employment experience was varied. While living in Leesburg, he worked with and retired from the waste management department. His final employment and retirement in Gainesville was at the Tacachale

Center in Gainesville. Deacon Walker’s favorite pastimes were reading, praying and singing. He was a loving family man and

thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.



Preceding him in death are his parents, Otis Cleveland Walker, Sr. and Ruth Learmer Walker; his sister,

Betty Watson and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Scott.

• Godchildren: Barbara Walker, Tallahassee, and Lutrell Strickland, Jr., Johnson Crossroads

• Siblings: Otis Cleveland Walker, Jr. (Gloria); Darlene Scott; James Walker (Christine);Mildred

Walker; Fredrick Walker (Ethel); Lester Walker; Donal Walker; Linda Wrotten (Bennie) and Dr.

Sharal Addison, Ft Meyers

• Uncles: Edward Ray (Ardie), Hawthorne; Felton Davis, Interlachen

• Special Friends: Johnny Franklin Johnson, Washington, DC and Alvin Evans, Leesburg

• A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
