Obituary for Elder Nazerine R. Burney Sr.
Elder Nazerine Burney Sr. peacefully departed this earthly life on September 3, 2015. As a Gainesville native earning his Bachelor's degree from FAMU and Master's degree from the University of Florida, he established his career as an educator for Alachua County Public Schools for 32 years. Simultaneously, he was a pastor for 44 years developing churches within the Church of God By Faith (COGBF), including Jerusalem, Palatka, and Hawthorne. In addition, he served as superintendent of the COGBF Palatka District for 24 years. A Home Going Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church 4000 NW 53rd St., Gainesville, FL, with Elder Nazerine Robert Burney Jr., Presiding, and Elder Isaac Burney is the Eulogist. The burial will be in Newnans Lake Cemetery, Gainesville, FL. The viewing will be Friday at PINKNEY-SMITH FUNERAL HOME 727 NW 2nd St. Gainesville, FL from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and a wake will be held at Passage Family Church from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., 2020 NE 15th Street Gainesville, FL. The Cortege will form 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the home of Elder Nazerine & Sister Betty Burney. He leaves to cherish his memory, a faithful and committed wife of 44 years, Betty Jean Burney. Four children, Nazerine Jr. (Marneshia) of Gainesville, FL, Sarah Warren (Timothy) of Douglas, GA, Isaac (Wendy) of Jacksonville, FL and Daniel (Danielle) of Gainesville, FL; 14 grandchildren; Two sisters, Roberta Graham (Clarence) of Archer, FL and Joyce Edwards (Jerry) of Gainesville, FL and a host of family and friends.��
