Obituary for Emma Lou Roberts

Emma Lou Roberts was born on January 13, 1948, in Gainesville, FL to the union of the late Lacy Brown and Mable Irvin. She was youngest of eleven children (three of whom died at birth).

She was raised in the Monteocha Community and was educated in the Alachua County School System. She graduated from AL Mebane High School and went on to receive her Associate in Arts Degree from Santa Fe Junior College (now known as Santa Fe College).

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of New Life Christian Center Church (Monteocha Community) where she served on the Usher Board.

Emma worked for Shands at the University of Florida for 30 years and was able to retire at an early age of 53 in 2002 and enjoy her many years in retirement traveling and spending time with family and friends. Emma touched the lives of many women and people in her life work in the Women’s Center at Shands. She always went beyond to assist others and left a lasting impact on every person that she encountered.

Emma is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Bernice London, Dorothy Ross, James Lacy Brown, and Lacy Brown (deceased at death).

She was a good sister, a loving mother, a present grandmother, and great grandmother (GG).

Those left to cherish her memory are her children-Cedric Wilson, Valencia Cromarty (Michael), Chandra Presley-Thomas (Winston) all of Gainesville, FL, Grandchildren-Eldric Taylor, Alexis Williams, Wintrez Thomas, Frankie Davis, Isaiah Cromarty, Michael Cromarty, Jr., Kayetlynn Hicks, Channing Thomas, and Michaela Cromarty, eleven great-grandchildren, siblings Thelma Walker, Mamie Richardson, Shelton Brown, and Henry Brown. She was loved dearly and will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and members of the Monteocha Community.
