Evangelene Clayton Grimes was born June 14, 1941 in Jacksonville, FL to the late
Cornelius Clayton Sr. and Ruby McGollie Clayton. She was a lifelong resident of the Melrose Community. She attended Duval County Schools, Putnam Hall Elementary, Central Academy High School, Palatka, FL and graduated from Shell Adult Night School in 1970. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and prayer warrior to many in our community.

She’s survived by three daughters, Wanda Youman, Melrose, FL, Valerie (Donald) Holmes, Jacksonville, FL, Vina (Eugene) Hutchinson, Melrose, FL; two sons, John Grimes, Melrose, FL and Perez (Heather) Grimes, Gainesville, FL; special grandson, John Grimes, III; 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest (Flora) Clayton, Fairfield, GA and Cornelius (Thelma) Clayton Jr. of Melrose, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
