Franklin Delano Moore was born on July 14, 1947 in Brooker, Florida to the late Nellie Moore and Samuel Norris.
He was the oldest of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alphonso Norris.
Franklin, often called Frank, was a graduate of A.L. Mebane High School, Class of 1964. He received a Certificate of
Commendation in Data Processing and Computer Programming from Lincoln Business College in 1965. He also received an Associate of Science Degree from Santa Fe Community College in 1976. During his elementary education, he received
a Certificate of Recognition for his perfect attendance.
Frank was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He was a member of Greater Bell United Methodist Church, where was active and dedicated to lending an helping hand.
On August 14,1971 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Singleton. He affectionately called her "Liz." To this union, two children were born; Byron and Ericka.
Frank was a member of the United States Army, where is served his country for three years. After being discharged from the army, he started his career as a firefighter with Gainesville Fire Rescue in 1971. He was one of the first 10, and one of the first 5 blacks of that 10 to be certified as a firefighter in the state of Florida. After 32 ½ years of service, he retired in 2002.
Frank was an avid fisherman and was very passionate about his cooking. He received many accolades for his contributions to the cooking arena. He was well known in Gainesville and surrounding cities for his sous, rice and beans, cornbread muffins and lemonade. It brought him great joy to see people eating the food he cooked. Frank enjoyed life and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his wife, his children and family.
He transitioned on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 2:40p.m. in Lake City, Florida. He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Moore of Gainesville, Florida; one son, Byron Moore (Friend Myra) of Gainesville, Florida; one daughter, Ericka Moore of Baltimore, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Davonte, Jakira, Jordan, Tyshereia, Yevyn, Greg and Carter; one goddaughter, Yvonne Allen of Tuskegee, AL; Mother, Beria Norris of Gainesville (Monteocha Community), Florida; three brothers, Samuel Norris, Jr. (Maudell) of Miami, Florida, Charles Moore (Ruthie) of High Springs, Florida and Carl Norris (Friend Carolyn) of Gainesville, Florida; two sisters, Irma Galloway (Louis) of High Springs, Florida and Emma Barnes (Maurice) of Fort Washington, MD; three aunts, Leola Hart of Fort Myers, Florida, Mary Johnson (Lee) of Gainesville, Florida and Helen Moten of Gainesville (Montecha Community), Florida; three brothers-in-law, Louis Singleton, Jr. (Aurora), Clarence Singleton (Mary) and Alfred Singleton, all of Gainesville, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Helen Marshall (Leon), Carrie Singleton, both of Gainesville, Florida, and Jeanette Norris of Miami, Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends. Special friends; Harold Batie, Lonnie Jordan, Cleveland Kathy, Freeman Robinson, Willie Salsberry and Alexander Young.
