Obituary for Harold Bernard Batie

Mr. Harold Batie was born November 27,1947 to the late Mary Hart and Willie Batey in St. Augustine, FL. They later moved to Gainesville when Harold was 12 years old and he attended Alachua County Public Schools. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1967. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and after 2 years he was honorably discharged. In 1970 he was one of the City of Gainesville first black Fire Fighters. While working as a fire fighter he furthered his education and received an Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degree in 1981 from Santa Fe Community College. He retired after 32 years of service.

He was also passionate about being a Magician. He was affectionately know as B-Magic the Magician. He would perform at birthday parties, family and class reunions, nursing homes, community events, etc. He was inducted into the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame in 2014.

Harold also was a member of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, Gainesville, FL, Pastor is Rev. Terry Dorsey. He played Bongos for his church.

He transitioned from this earthly life June 29, 2023.

He’s preceded in death by his sister, Diane Thomas; brothers, Jimmy Hart, Ernest Batie, and Kevin Batie.

Precious memories will remain in the hearts of his four daughters, Carmelitta Strickland (Reginald), Stacey McGinnis-Cason (Alford), Wanda Frazier (Darryl) of Miami and Schnecia Batie; three sisters, Gale Batey, Angel Ross (Donald) and Sabrina Felder (George); a brother, Thomas Batie (Edna), Dayton, OH

10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and endearing friends.
