Obituary for James Ezell Montgomery
James Ezell Montgomery " Blue" was born to the late Yurlee Wilson- Grady and Bishop Izel Montgomery, Sr., on Saturday, December 17, 1955, in Gainesville, Florida. James attended Duval and Williams elementary school. He also attended Lincoln Middles School and was a part of the first graduating class at Eastside high school class of 1973. After graduating, James became a cook at North Florida Regional medical center. He met and married Roberta Sermons on July 12, 1977.
From their union came Sylvia in 1982. He retired after 35 years of service at North Florida. James immediately started working at AGH as a cook until they closed.
Then he transferred to Shand in the patient transport department, and he remained there until he got sick and retired from Shands on June 2019.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Yurlee Grady and Izel Montgomery, brother Gregory Williams, and his sister Patrice Lee. James leaves to cherish his memories: his surviving ex-wife Roberta Montgomery, daughter Sylvia Montgomery- Byrd (Donray), and son Roman "Drell" (Maleishia) Frazier.
Grandchildren: Donray "Champ" Byrd, Kayona "MaMa" Byrd, Roman "Lil Drel!" Frazier, Aundriela Frazier, Ja'Kari Frazier.
His sisters: Annie Montgomery, Maggie Montgomery, Cynthia Montgomery-Gainey, and Danica Britt, all of Gainesville, FL. Minister Ellen Smith of Perry, FL; Mildred Brown of East Windsor, NJ; Wilma Brown, Angela (Eric) Williams of Tallahassee, FL; Nicole Montgomery of Starke, FL. Ruby (Lewis) Clayton of St. Petersburg.
His Brothers: Willis (Elanie) Montgomery of Jacksonville, NC; Charles (Addie) Montgomery of San Antonio, TX; Pastor Izell Montgomery, Jr of Perry, FL;
Minister Isaac (Lisa) Montgomery of Starke, FL; Gavin (Keyonna) Britt of Gainesville, FL. Also he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
