Jermaine “JT” Thompson, son of Norbert and Rozlyn Thompson, brother to Jasmin Robinson (Thompson), also to Gary and Michelle Thompson was born May 5, 1978, in Fort Wayne, Indiana at Parkview Hospital.
During his formative years, JT enjoyed playing outside, engineering steep ramps to make bicycles airborne and navigating adventures around the neighborhood before there was GPS. He would look forward to and covet visits from the Indianapolis and Miami cousins as a time to hang with just “the boys” and have a welcomed break from little sis. JT would dance the night away during his parent's legendary basement parties and spend countless hours enforcing military strategies with his GI Joe action figures. He attended Sacred Heart and Harrison Hill Elementary Schools before moving to Miami in 1989 where he attended Carol City Elementary School, North Dade Middle School and received his GED from Miami Carol City Senior High School.
The move to South Florida produced a passion in JT that centered on a love of family, fashion, culture and marching to the beat of his own drum. He immediately embraced the opportunity to nurture his Caribbean roots, immersing himself in all things Jamaican from speech to saltfish. He surrounded himself with all kinds of people, leaning in and listening to the world around him to grow and collect nuggets of wisdom to share. JT loved looking good, always finding the “flyest” fits to make a statement and accent his stature. Most importantly, JT was intent on connecting with family; striving to embrace both “yard” and “foreign” and taking time to nurture those relationships.
Hard work was in JT’s DNA, landing his first job at the age of 14 at Winn-Dixie Supermarket in Opa Locka (Miami Gardens), FL. He served as a Warehouse Worker for 15 years with Premier Beverage in Miramar, FL. After a corporate restructure, JT pointed his efforts toward an industry well known to the family…trucking. Bound and determined, he successfully completed the Roadmaster Drivers School of Orlando program and began his career as a Solo Driver for Werner in the summer of 2019. JT absolutely adored trucking, traveling the country, and soaking in his surroundings. He received commendations for his dedication and was rewarded recently with a route close to home on Florida’s eastern seaboard/South Georgia.
During rare moments of down time, JT loved fishing, RC cars, aquatic life and astronomy. When his truck was parked, you would find him on the bank of some waterway, pole in hand, peacefully enjoying some “catch and release.” His RC cars were his pride and joy, sparing no expense to boost speed for bragging rights. He would fulfill this passion in life sized form, always pulling up unannounced in a “luxury” this with a “hemi” that. JT was enamored with space exploration, keeping schedule of NASA launches and would attend whenever possible. He had a natural curiosity with his approach to life and was relentless in his pursuit of knowledge surrounding the topics he was most interested in.
The sun set on JT’s life Tuesday, January 24th of organic heart failure. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Fred Jackson, maternal uncle, Fred Jackson, Jr., paternal grandmother, Icilda Thompson, paternal aunt, Gloria Baptiste, paternal uncle, Orville Thompson and paternal aunt, Beverly Thompson.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Jasmin (Tromma), siblings Gary (Simone) and Michelle, nephews Oraine Munda, Isaiah Robinson, Kumareon Robinson, Bryan Thompson, Micheal Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Steven Thompson, Joel Thompson, nieces Layla Robinson, Jelisia Munda and Garanique Thompson, aunts Margaret, Dorian (Raphael), Ruby and Dressie, first cousins Dwight (Kim), Melburn "Big Gary" Dillon, Yvette, Novlett, Vereen, Yvonne, Donna, Rachael (Tyrone), Oliver, Stacie, Keysha, Cameron, Darricia, Godmother Sue Ulrich (Bob), Godbrother Nick Chaney (Amber), a host of second cousins, third cousins and family and friends who love and will miss him dearly.
