Katie Mae Nichols McClendon was born February 3, 1948, to Robert and Emma Nichols in Lochloosa, Florida. Education: In Alachua County School District, Gainesville, Florida. She completed her education in 1966. Affiliation: Heroine of Jericho-early 1970’s.
A faithful member of Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church until the Churches united to Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Abilene Missionary Baptist Church. Served as a Deaconess,, was member of the choir, and kitchen committee.
Employment: She was a faithful employee at Shands Hospital for many years before transferring to the University of Florida after retiring with 35plus years of service. On November 30, 1970, she married Reverend Frankie McClendon Sr., they were blessed to celebrate over 50 plus years together. During this union they were blessed with five children. On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Katie gained her heavenly wings. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Nichols Sr., her siblings, Robert Nichols Jr, Charles Nichols, Lorenzo Nichols, Sarah Cliffin, Lavonne Nichols, and Gloria Dean McClendon.
Katie leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband, Rev. Frankie L. Mcclendon, Sr.; her mother, Emma Nichols; her children, TaWunda Bryant (Thomas) of Phoenix City, AL., Carla Jackson (Michael), of Tampa, FL, Shericka Aranda (Francisco) of Stone Mountain, GA, Frankie McClendon Jr. of Tampa, FL, Andrea Aranda (Jose) of Gulfport, MS; sisters, Rosa Carey, Patricia Hutchinson (Rufus), Cherry Bynum(Miles), Frances Rollins, Carolyn Wright and Vivian Jenkins; brothers; Henry Nichols, Bernard Nichols and Alfred Nichols; brothers-in-law; Tye McClendon Sr. (Agnes), Daniel McClendon (Felicia), Sam Wesley; sister-in-law, Frances Fulton; host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins’ other relatives and friends. She will be missed dearly!
