Larry Darnell Davis, affectionately known as “Jack,” was born in Palatka, Florida on April 6, 1955, to
the late Reverend Elliott Davis and Mary Etta Davis. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a
former member of Abilene Missionary Baptist Church and the Church of God in Putnam Hall, Fl.
Larry was reared in Grandin, Florida and was a proud graduate of the Interlachen High School Class of
1973.
Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1974 through 1977. The aforementioned
includes an oversees tour of duty assignment in Frankfurt, Germany. He attained the rank of Specialist-4 (E-4) and received an honorable discharge. After his tenure in the military, he returned home and
worked as a surveyor’s assistant and years in the construction industry until his health began to fail.
Larry’s hobbies included playing cards and listening to music. He was an avid sports fan and loved
(emphasis added) the Green Bay Packers! He basically enjoyed watching all college and professional
sports including the Florida Gators, Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters, to name a few.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Reverend Willie Lee Davis, Sr.
(Janet), Reverend Paul Davis (Linda) and Naomi Davis Nelson (Clifford).
Larry entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in
Gainesville, Florida. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: Brothers Alfred Davis, Sr. (the late
Claretha) Putnam Hall, Fl., Eugene Davis, Sr. (Evelyn), Edward Davis, Sr. (Shirley), like a brother,
Calvester Davis, Sr. (Bertha) all of Grandin, Fl; Sisters: Jannie Armstrong (the late Venerable, Sr.),
Linda Lancaster (Austin), both of Grandin, Fl., Jerline Brown (Harry) Lochloosa, Fl. and a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
