In Memoriam: Mr. Lee Edward Johnson
The family of Mr. Lee Edward Johnson gathers today to honor the life of a remarkable individual whose journey began in Alachua, Florida on August 18th, 1933. Born to the late Benjamin and Annie Mae (Williams) Johnson, his story is one of enduring legacy and invaluable contributions to both education and family.
Lee's early educational journey unfolded within the Alachua County School District, culminating in his graduation from ACT in 1951. His pursuit of knowledge continued as he embarked on a transformative chapter at Edward Waters College from January 31st, 1956 to January 24th, 1958. Where he received his BS degree in Education.
The call of duty beckoned, leading Mr. Johnson to serve his nation with honor and distinction as a Private First Class in the United States Army from December 2nd, 1953 to December 1st, 1955. His commitment to service extended to the field of education, where he shared his wisdom and inspired countless young minds in the Alachua County School System and the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania School System. It was during his tenure in education that he found his purpose and made a lasting impact. Subsequently, Mr. Johnson decided to retire from the educational sector, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
In 1995, he returned to his roots in Alachua, Florida, guided by a deep desire to be close to his family. It was during this homecoming that he found love once more and embarked on a new chapter of his life. On February 2nd, 2016, Mr. Lee Edward Johnson was united in holy matrimony with Mary Smith, and they were blessed with seven years of profound companionship. Mr. Johnson is a member of Bartley Temple United Methodist Church, Gainesville, FL, Elder Mary L. Mitchell is Pastor.
On October 4th, 2023, we bid farewell to Mr. Lee Edward Johnson as he embarked on his final journey. He now reunites with his mother, father, sisters, and brothers who had gone before him, his transition from labor to eternal service beginning anew.
Mr. Johnson's memory is cherished by his beloved wife of seven years, Mrs. Mary Smith Johnson of Gainesville, Florida, his son Rodney E. Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida, his bonus son George L. Pinkney, III (Faye) of Hawthorne, Florida, two daughters, Lisa Johnson Dove of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jamilla Johnson (Thomas Brown) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind a daughter in bond, Valerie Frazier (Dave) of Orlando, Florida; several grand and great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and sorrowful friends.
In this time of mourning, we remember and celebrate a life well-lived, rich in love, service, and devotion. May Mr. Lee Edward Johnson rest in eternal peace.
