Obituary for Melvin Colson Williams
Melvin Colon Williams was born August 4th, 1940 as Melvin Colson to
Mary Lou and Ervin Colson. After the unexpected death of his birth
mother, Melvin and his younger sister Shirley J. Colson Moore (The late
Elder Lennon J. Moore Sr.) were adopted by their father's sister and her
husband; Mrs. Roxie and Nathaniel Colon Williams.
As a child, Melvin attended the Alachua County school system and gave
his life to Christ at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Melvin could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. At a very early
age, he had a love for food and catering events. Melvin began his career at
the Holiday Inn. He then worked at Hayden Ham, where his cooking
talents were discovered and quickly, he excelled to Top Chef.
In December of 1960, Melvin married his first wife. To their union were
two sons, Gregory Colson, Detron Colon, and daughter Shaunda Colson.
March of 2003, Melvin wedded the love of his life Janice Marie Williams.
Janice and Melvin were inseparable, "glued to the hip." The love they
shared impacted so many different lives. Together they were God fearing
and welcoming. A dependable couple who opened their homes and their
hearts, to people who needed it. Janice and Melvin helped raise grandkids,
godkids, and foster children, and one thing that never changed was their
love.
In later years, Melvin owned and operated "Roxie's Place." A restaurant
named after his adopted mother. Years later he worked as a landscaper at
Taylor's Landscaping until his retirement.
Melvin was preceded in death by his birth parents, adopted parents, and
daughter, Tressa Thomas. (Mike Thomas Sr.)
He leaves to cherish his memory; Wife, Janice Williams (Demetrius) Sister.
