Obituary for Mildred Rutledge Lawson
Mildred Rutledge Lawson was born one of twelve children on July 17, 1931 in Dade City, Florida to the late Mattie and Wille (Scoopy) Rutledge. Preceding her in death were five brothers: Andrew (AJ) Rutledge, Roosevelt (Jango) Rutledge, Clyde (Tippy) Rutledge, Odell (Boobie) Rutledge, and Jerry Rutledge; and three sisters: Dorothy Rutledge, Betty Rutledge Williams, and Frances Davis.
Mildred grew up in Lochloosa fl. and went to public school in Alachua County.
Mildred had various jobs during her life. She retired from Hawthorne High School as a custodian.
Mildred always had a smile for everyone and was willing to help when needed. She always made sure you were welcomed both in her home and in her heart. She was a great cook and baked the best sweet potato pies, and she always offered you a meal. Mildred also loved fishing and working in her yard.
Mildred was converted at an early age and loved the Lord. She loved to sing in the choir and was a devoted member of her church, Hawthorne Church of God by Faith. She was also a Mother of the Church. Her favorite songs were “Word Brought Me Here” and Glory, Glory Hallelujah. She started her grands singing when they were very young, and they were known as the “Rutledge Singers”. They are still singing and serving the Lord today.
On March 16, 2020, the Lord called Mildred home to rest. She was faithful and ran a great race. She fought a good fight and finally finished her course. She was a remarkable lady and will be dearly missed by those who really knew and loved her.
Mildred leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: children: Barbara Rainer-Lee, Beverly Rutledge, and Michael Rutledge; grandchildren: Timothy (Kelitha) Rainer, Glenda Rainer, Julius Gordon, Jr., Crystal Duncan; great grandchildren: Timothy Rainer, Jr., Bobby Rainer, Tiani Rainer, Julius Gordon III, Julian Gordon, Juliana Gordon; great great grandchildren: Bobby Rainer, Jr., Briel Rainer; brothers: Bobby Rutledge and Willie Rutledge, Sr.; sister: Laura Rutledge; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; God daughters: Patricia Bowie and Dominique Hollinger; special friends Lillie Buncomb, Ruby Mae Pearson, and Julia Brown.
