Born on December 16, 1940 in Gainesville, Florida, Ruth Bell Gordon was born to Rosa Lee Johnson and Herman Bell. Raised by her grandmother, Queenie Bell Clark, Ruth dedicated her life to caring for others as a Behavior Program Specialist, Home Care Attendant, and Mother of the Church (Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church, Logos Christian Assembly & Life Changers Church) for more than 50 years, while also serving as the heart of her family and community.
Ruth attended Lincoln Junior-Senior High School during her primary and secondary educational years. Ruth excelled academically, developing a love for learning at an early age. After graduation from high school, Ruth enrolled at Santa Fe Community College where she earned her Associate of Arts Degree, and continued on with coursework toward her bachelor’s degree. Although she was dedicated to earning her degree, she didn’t hesitate to pause her studies to care for her mother, Rose and grandmother, Queenie when their health was failing. Ruth maintained her love for learning across her life span, constantly reading books, writing letters, and greeting cards to family and friends to uplift their spirits in their times of need.
Following the deaths of her mother and grandmother, Ruth began her professional journey at Sunland Training Center (now known as Tacachale Center) in 1978, working her way up to the positions of supervisor and Behavior Program Specialist. She retired from Tacachale Center in 2000; but continued the work she loved by working privately with Green group homes and Elder Care services for 10 years spreading love and cheer to the clients she served.
In her later years, Ruth relocated to the Atlanta, Georgia area, where she again became busy as a mother of her church (Life Changers) and participated in various yearly activities in the church. During this time, Ruth lived amongst her 7 children until the day God called her home. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Gordon and her parents, Rose Lee and Herman. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory her seven children ( Christopher Hall, Carnell Hall, Charles Gordon, Floyd Hill, Charlotte Hill, Vanessa Gordon and Clifton Gordon) 11 grandchildren (Justin Hill(Leah Hill), Cameron Hill, Carnell Hall Jr., Mia Hill, Jamya Hill, Jasmine Hill( deceased), Emani Hill, Floyd Hill Jr., Bryce Gordon-Martin, Aiyana Gordon, Anais Gordon), 7 great grandchildren (Jocelyn Hill, Jaleah Hill, Ivey Hall, India Hall, Carnell Hall III, Carter Hall, Jacob Hill), two sisters (Janet Samuel’s and Maxine Early) and a host of adoring family members and friends.
