William (Bill) R. Davis, Jr.
Bill was born 9/23/1928 in Clementon NJ, to William R. Davis, Sr. and Kathleen Alice Davis (nee Moffitt) and lived in Barrington NJ, New Castle DE, Atlanta GA, Pine Island FL, and Mt. Dora FL before moving to Gainesville in 2010.
Served in Army Air Corp/Air Force from 1945-1948. Member of occupation army in Japan as a P-80 Crew Chief. Post-military, Bill was a Technical Specialist with DuPont Company and retired in 1990 after 36-year career with DuPont.
Bill was an aviation enthusiast who obtained his private pilot license and became a homebuilder (Pitts Special and five RV planes including the award winning "Tiger-Kat") and restorer of various antique and classic aircraft. He began his aviation journey in a Piper Cub and his last restoration project in 2008 was also a Piper Cub.
Bill is pre-deceased by Jean, his beloved wife of 60 years. He is survived by daughters Adele Woods (Jefferson, NH) and Kathleen Davis (Gainesville, FL); brothers Thomas Davis (Port St. Lucie, FL) and Steven Davis (Fernandina Beach, FL) and their families; grandsons Andrew Woods (Ridgefield, WA) and Jonathan Woods (Monte Plata, Dominican Republic) and their families.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Antique Airplane Association, 22001 Bluegrass Road, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
